Francis Gilbert Ahl, 84, of Bozeman passed away May 2, 2000. He was born Nov. 8, 1915, to Kenneth and Nellie (McDonald) Ahl in Bozeman. At a young age, the family moved to Harrison, where Francis attended grade school. However, he returned to Bozeman and attended Gallatin County High School.
Francis served in the U.S. Army during World War II in field artillery. After the service, he went to work as a miner in the Butte area, a job he was very proud of. After leaving mining and the Butte area, Francis returned to Bozeman and went to work for Yellowstone Pine in Belgrade. He held this job for 40 years before retiring.On Feb. 24, 1971, Francis married Geraldine Vaughan in Livingston. He had three children, Edna, Deanna and Frank.
Francis is survived by his wife, Gerry; his daughters, Edna Ahl of Redmond, Wash., and Deanna Strader of Newport, Ore.; son, Frank Ahl of Elliston; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, John, Kenneth and Vic Ahl.
Cremation took place at Dahl Funeral Chapel.
A Vigil will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, June 2, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens [1]
