  Notes	From David Goss, correspondent, note of October 26, 2008 Some sources suggest Philip Goss was the son of John Goss who came to America with Captain Winthrop in 1630 but this is not clearly established. The reverse order of Philip's birthdate and the marriage date of his parents seems supported by this: 1678 month 4 day 16. Hana Hopkins was censured in the Church with admonication for fornication with her husband before yei we marryed and for flying away from justice unto Road Island. (Record of the Commissioner fo the City of Boston, 6:93). they had different mothers, John and Capt. Philip Goss (Philip #2) were both sons of Philip Goss of Roxbury, the Boston merchant.  The half-brothers both had sons named Philip and in Philip #2's case, a grandson who was also named Philip contributing to some enduring confusion in the genealogical record as to whether the two younger Philip Gosses, born in  the early 1720's, were one and the same person or in fact different people.
