Sherrill Erwin "Shirl" Finley was born on 11 Jun 1869 in Macomb, St. Lawrence, NY. He died in May 1939 in Hermon, St. Lawrence, NY. His obituary appeared on 16 May 1939 in an unknown newspaper, as follows:
"S. E. Finley Rites Held. Hermon, May 16.--Funeral services for Shirl Edwin Finley, 70, who died at his home about two miles from this village Tuesday after an illness of about three weeks from a complication of diseases, were held from the home this afternoon at 1:30, Rev. B. C. Nichols of Hermon officiating and burial was made in the Hermon cemetery.
"Mr. Finley was born in Macomb on June 11, 1869, a son of the late George and Mary Hyde Finley. On Nov. 23, 1889, he married Miss Wealthea J. Hodge of Macomb, Rev. Mr. Hathaway officiating. Mrs. Finley died in 1932.
"For the past 31 years, Mr. Finley, a farmer, had resided here. Prior to that he had been a resident of Chaumont, Rensselaer Falls, Heuvelton and Gouverneur.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Gordon Finley of Hermon and Oren Finley of Dekalb and Mrs. Glenn (Dorothy) Fairbanks, Malone, and two grandchildren, Glenn VanNamee and Paul Finley of Dekalb." He was buried in Hermon cemetery, Hermon, St. Lawrence, NY.
