Myrtle was involved with her church and was musically inclined. She was listed as being a soloist in the Marion, Ohio Newspaper on December 20, 1949, at the "Chesterville Methodist Church". On March 22, 1950, she was written in the "Marion Star" as playing two violin solos to the Marengo Social Club in Ashley, Ohio. She wasn't mentioned again until 1952, when her son, Herrmann Skaggs, shot and killed her father, John Franklin Herrmann, when, as Herrmann said, "his grandfather came to punish him, and he shot him with a shot-gun, not realizing that the shot-gun was loaded". After this, she wasn't mentioned again until April 6, 1962, when her car crashed into two ponies in the road and killed the ponies. Her injuries were mentioned as, "a bruised shoulder and abdomen, but not treated at the time".

ACCIDENTS IN MARION, OHIO AREA
Two ponies were struck and killed by a car driven by Myrtle Skagges, 53 of near Marengo, Thursday at 8:40 p.m. Marion highway patrolman reported.
She was driving south on Rt. 61 about 3 1/2 miles north of Marengo and hit the ponies which were in the road, patrolman said. Minor damage was done to the car.
She suffered a bruised shoulder and abdomen, but was not treated at the time." [1]
